Sites of the Month:
July to December
The X PRIZE is a $10,000,000 prize to jump start the space tourism industry through competition: between the most talented entrepreneurs and rocket experts in the world.
Note: Since its original objective was achieved. the X-Prize has developed into a series of competitions to drive advances in Space and other technologies.
The Shuttleworth Collection's 75th Anniversary and of course 2003 is the centenary of powered flight.
The Site of the Month WAS the Original incarnation of
Green Leader Net
which was dedicated to an operation carried out by the
Rhodesian Armed Services of the UDI Era
callec Operation Gatling and more specifically the
the Raid Tactical Commander, known simply as 'Green Leader'.
Despite being to some a controversial decision, I chose this site for two
reasons:
Firstly because it was an extremely audacious military operation.
But primarily because it contained the transcript of one on the most powerful
sermons of modern times given by the (Late) Very Rev. John da Costa,
which can now be found here:
The Silence is Deafening
As Green Leader Net has changed both owner and focus, I intend to cover this
subject in more detail on this site at some point in the future.
Not One, but two sites of the Month:
To mark the retirement of Concorde from Commercial Service, I have chosen:
To mark the 32nd anniversary of the launch of the Black Arrow carrying the Prospero Satellite:
On November the 5th 1605 a solitary figure is
arrested in the cellars of Parliament House.
Although initially giving a false name, under torture he is found to be
Guy Fawkes one of thirteen involved in a plot to blow up Parliament.
This failed attempt to change the course of History
is commemorated each year in Britain under various names:
'Guy Fawkes Night', 'Bonfire Night',
or 'Fireworks Night' Traditionally Children collect
'a penny for the Guy' for an effigy of Guy Fawkes they
have made. which is then burnt on a Bonfire on the anniversary with an associated Firework Display!
So the Site of the Month is:
This site of the Month features the Church of the Nativity - Bethlehem:
As the originally chosen site has disappeared I have replaced it with the Wikipedia Entry:
Church of the Nativity - Bethlehem - Wikipedia Entry
Finally for Children of all ages, a reminder that: NORAD Tracks Santa as Christmas approaches each year.
