Sites of the Month
January to June
In January 1959 forces under Fidel Castro toppled the corrupt Batista
Regime and once again Cuba troubled the minds of the world's most powerful
nations and has continued to do so for the last 48 Years.
But this is only the latest period since 1492, that Cuba's History has had a
significance out of all proportion to its size and I have therefore chosen:
Which covers the entire troubled history of this island as Site of the Month
If you want information on Scotland then this is the site you need:
An excellent site and definitely worthy to be a Site of the Month
The Battle lasted 170 days from: 13th March 1954 until: 8th May 1954 at a place called:
This excellent site forms both an historical record and a worthy tribute to both Veterans and those who laid down their lives either on the Battlefield or died later in Captivity
To mark the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands War, I have chosen:
Honour Regained - 1982 Falklands War - Part of Britain's Small Wars site
and
The Falkands War - What Happened - A Guardian Special Report
The invasion and occupation of the Falkland Islands by Argentina and the British response resulting in the island's liberation, happened a quarter of a century ago. Yet the effects of this conflict are still resonating in Argentina, Falklands and the UK, not only by those who were scarred by the war and the families of the fallen, but in the spheres of Politics, Society and Military Thinking.
I have decided to pick one of Caz Caswell's favourite sites, as Site of the Month:
Gatwick AvPhotos - Part of the AvPhotos Site
For those of us who work, or worked at Gatwick there are many 'nostalgia moments' on this site and not just because of the photographs!
The Falklands War of 1982 is already to many just another chapter
in Britain's History of Small Wars.
Although the British Death Toll was relatively low (225) there were
many casualties scarred in body and/or mind.
