Sites of the Month:
July to December
On the 20th July 1968 Apollo 11 Landed on the Moon. To mark the 40th Anniversary of the day when Neil Armstrong made 'one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind' as he stepped on the Lunar Surface, I have chosen the:
Smithsonian's Apollo Program Web Site
For those who want to totally relive the Apollo 11 Mission, literally minute by
minute, then this is the site for you:
We Choose the Moon - Sponsored by the John F Kennedy Library and Museum and AOL
The site 'opens' on the 16th July 2009 and runs a real time audio and visual
recreation of the mission lasting 4 days!
August and the time when many British people take their main, if not their only holiday of the year. With this in mind if have chosen a site that highlights another of my favourite areas of Britain:
Isles of Scilly - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
More information on the Isles of Scilly can be found here:
Isles of Scilly Tourist Information Centre
,
Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust
and also at:
Isles of Scilly - Wikipedia Entry
September 1939 saw the outbreak of World War II. To mark the 70th Anniversary, I feel it is appropriate to make two selections from the BBC. After all the BBC was the 'voice of freedom' to occupied Europe, the Empire and the World:
BBC Archive: World War II - Outbreak of War
October's Site of the month is unusual in that I am, due circumstances the site Webmaster. Because of the imminent closure of Geocities on the 26th of this Month, I have rescued Stephen O'Brien's seminal Britain In Space site from certain closure and performed technical and some extremely limited content updates, which at time of writing are still in progress:
Britain In Space: The story of British space projects from Pre-WWII to 2002
Two sites of the Month for November:
The British Legion Poppy Appeal for 2009:
and
Two sites of the Month for December:
Help for Heroes: Support for our wounded
and
Finally for Children of all ages, a reminder that: NORAD Tracks Santa as Christmas approaches each year.
