Sites of the Month:
July to December
This month I have chosen site that is concerned with an Island, but this time a site that concentrates on the Island's History, from prehistoric times through to the recent past:
Whilst content is provided by various people including those from the:
Isle of Wight County Archaeology and Historic Environment Service
this site is very much a 'labour of love' by the Webmaster
This Month I have been looking into the smallest of the Channel Island Crown Dependencies:
Sark.
Sark is uniquely different in its Government and Lifestyle to Mainland Britain
and indeed the other Channel Islands, so why not
plan a visit, starting with the site of the month:
To Mark the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, I have chosen a site especially created for this Anniversary:
For some time I have been looking for a site that at least covers the major Battles of Britain's Wars large and Small prior to World War One and I appear to have found it:
November is the month of Remembrance, when the homage is paid to the fallen of the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts, so the first of the three Sites I have chosen is:
The British Legion Poppy Appeal for 2010:
On a less sombre note: The picture from the
1967 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run
on
Mark Jago's In2Clicks
Website, reminded me to check out this years event. The result is two related sites as
2010 is not only the 80th Anniversary of when the
Royal Automobile Club
took over the organisation and management
of the Run in 1930:
London to Brighton Veteran Car Run: 7th November 2010
But is also the 80th Anniversary of the founding of the
Veteran Car Club of Great Britain
Which was formed in the Counties bar of the Old Ship Hotel Brighton, immediately following the 1930 Run by S.C.H. (Sammy) Davis, J.A.(Jackie) Masters and Capt. J.H. Wylie
The lead up and Celebration of Christmas dominates the month of December and as usual deciding which site, or sites would be appropriate is even harder than usual. So I started to think how the Commercial had so overshadowed the Religious that many Churches are now redundant, so for my first site I have chosen:
Friends of Friendless Churches
Spare a thought and hopefully more for British Servicemen and women away from home and family this Christmas.
Finally for Children of all ages, a reminder that: NORAD Tracks Santa as Christmas approaches each year.
