Why I Selected a DELL Laptop
Despite, really not wanting the hassle, I knew I needed to replace my Laptop. In days passed I would
have automatically gone for one particular brand and then selected the most suitable model.
Well times change and I spent a long time reading reviews on all the major brands and some of the
OEM models.
Despite some occasional bad press on Battery Problems, I kept coming back to the Dell Offerings, but being pedantic I produced a final shortlist of three Manufacturers
and roughly equivalent models. I then went step by step through the Specifications, Pre-installed Software (options as well as standard) and what I had read about
build quality.
The result was that although if you just looked at the list prices, DELL was not the cheapest, to achieve what I needed in terms of Office Software,
and Security protection, plus the required Hardware specification DELL was the obvious leader.
So I put my money where my analysis indicated and the Laptop arrived on Schedule.
Connected it to my LAN, powered it up and bingo, a really pleasant surprise, everything was as I requested, setting up the LAN and Broadband connections
was painless, the only chore being installing the software for which I already had Licences.
At the time of writing this, it is now nearly a Year after buying the laptop and I am still really pleased with my Dell Inspiron. Of course technology has moved on since my purchase,
but having checked out the latest DELL Models, if I was buying today, I would still choose DELL.
Why I chose a DELL Desktop
Having had my DELL Laptop a couple of months, I began to get increasingly dissatisfied with the performance of my primary Desktop PC.
It was starting to struggle with the latest versions of Software and memory couldn't be expanded further.
It was never going to be Vista Capable and it was beginning to the show the early signs of what one of my favourite Computing Humourists,
Verity Stob calls 'Cruft'.
So it was time to 'bite the bullet' and get a Business Machine, but with a few Home related add-on's. I admit it, DELL had a head start over its competitors.
Firstly because of my recently purchased Laptop, also because I had eyed up some of their Desktop Products during my research.
But I still did product comparison with the three Desktop Suppliers I have some respect for and a quick look at the White Box PC Market.
Once again after customising the offerings DELL had a lead on all the metrics that interested me. Performance, Price and pre-installing the software I required,
not just what was in the basic package. I decided to have Vista installed and therefore went for 3Gb Memory.
So once again I spent the money and the Boxes arrived on Schedule. Installation, including attaching the accessories was no problem. On Power up, configuring the LAN etc,
was easy. The usual chore of installing my Licensed Software followed (including synchronising Outlook and special back-up software for my File Server, plus all the Web
and other Development tools). But once this was done everything was great and I even began to like Vista!
At time of writing I have had the system for over half a year and I am really pleased with it.
So yes I recommend DELL for both Laptops and Desktops.
